Overview

UntitledThe Forest and Timber Resources Research Center (FTRRC) of the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) is located at the Northwestern Mindanao comprising Regions 9, 10 and 13 and based at Barangay Maharlika, Bislig City, Surigao del Sur. It embraces half of the entire Mindanao island with 14 Provinces with Region 10 as the central region.


Functions

FTRRC shall plan, formulate, and implement RDE programs/ projects/activities including generation and transfer of technologies related to conservation and management of forest and timber resources in accordance with the national RDE agenda and framework. It shall provide technical assistance to clientele on forest and timber resources management and other ENR technologies and perform other functions that may be assigned by higher authority.

Its Research Stations and Satellite Offices shall perform the following functions:

  1. Provide demand-driven technologies on environment and natural resources, conservation and management;
  2. Provide technical assistance to other offices and clienteles and undertakes technology promotion and transfer services;
  3. Assess the training needs of the end-users/clientele in the region of jurisdiction;
  4. Conduct training on ENR technologies in the region;
  5. Maintains ENR R & D Database and submits regular monitoring and assessment report;
  6. Implement and monitor R, D and E programs/projects/activities on ENR within their regional area of responsibility;
  7. Strengthen multi-level coordination with LGUs on the devolved ENR functions in accordance with the Local Government Code (RA 7160) and other related issuances of government; and
  8. Coordinate and collaborate relevant R, D & E programs/projects activities with PENRO, CENRO and other local and national agencies within their area of responsibility.

  2. Impact of climate change on forest resources in Mindanao
  3. Pests and diseases infestation in forest plantations
  4. Decreasing number of population of indigenous/endemic species
  5. Declining natural forest stand
  6. Limited participation among stakeholders on conservation and management of forest and timber resources
  7. Inadequate data/information on forest resources
  8. Policy issues [i.e. deregulation of industrial tree plantations (ITP) species; imposition of taxes on ITPs; market linkage; etc.
  9. Administration/ Management Human Resource Development (Master’s Degree/PhD)
